Located just 15 minutes from Leticia, this environmental interpretation park offers an educational and cultural experience without venturing deep into the rainforest. Maikuchiga

Located in the community of Mocagua, it functions as a specialized center for the recovery and protection of monkeys and other species that are victims of wildlife trafficking. Here, the reintroduction process is combined with ancestral knowledge to ensure that wildlife returns to its natural habitat.

Located in the indigenous community of Mocagua (1 hour from Leticia by boat), Maikuchiga is a foundation dedicated to the rehabilitation and conservation of monkeys rescued from illegal trafficking. This private activity can be combined with a visit to the Tarapoto Lakes. It is recommended during the high water season, when boating and wildlife viewing are at their best.

Cacao Island

A private tour that crosses the border into Peru to explore Cacao Island and visit the indigenous community of San Antonio. This cultural and natural experience includes hiking through jungle trails, observing ancient trees, and, with a bit of luck, spotting sloths and exotic birds. You'll share this time with local families in an authentic setting. It's an ideal complement to a visit to the Tarapoto Lakes. Recommended during the low water season, when the island is more easily accessible on foot.

Marasha

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Marasha Reserve, where the Amazon rainforest comes alive in all its glory.

Located in Peru, approximately 1.5 hours from Leticia (by boat and hike), Marasha is a nature reserve offering an immersive Amazonian experience. Access is via a boat trip on the Amazon River, followed by a hike (or canoe, depending on the water level) through the rainforest.

It's perfect for disconnecting and reconnecting with nature: rustic cabins on the lake, hiking, artisanal fishing, wildlife viewing, kayaking, and the chance to see caimans, pirarucu fish, and birds. Private or shared activities are available.

Tarapoto Lakes

Designated a Ramsar site for its high ecological value, this system of over 20 interconnected lakes is home to pink river dolphins, caimans, exotic birds, and abundant flora. Located near Puerto Nariño, it can be combined with private activities or when staying in Puerto Nariño, or as part of tours that include this area. A perfect place to connect with Amazonian biodiversity.

Monkey Island

Also known as Arara Island, it has become a popular destination, primarily because it is home to a population of free-roaming primates.

Located on the banks of the Amazon River, this island is home to hundreds of squirrel monkeys that approach visitors in search of food. It's a shared activity, very popular with domestic and family tourists, as it allows for close contact with the animals.

However, it's not always to everyone's liking due to the type of interaction with the wildlife. Although it can be operated privately, in those cases we recommend more conservation-focused alternatives, such as Maikuchiga or interpretive walks in nature reserves.

Visit to the communities

When we operate private tours on the Amazon River, it's possible to stop in local communities like Macedonia or Puerto Alegría, where travelers can experience daily life, traditional crafts, customs, and local cuisine firsthand. These visits enrich the journey, fostering an authentic exchange with the cultures that inhabit the Amazonian riverbanks.
